September 09 Newsletter Now and then it’s good to pause in our pursuit of happiness and just be happy. Guillaume Apollinaire Build Stronger Bones I was shocked to learn recently that we have the highest calcium intake in the world, but more hip fractures than countries that have less calcium intake. In fact, the Harvard Nurses study showed that nurses who took in the highest levels of calcium had the greatest risk of bone fracture. So what do we do to build stronger bones? 1) Exercise Calisthenics and resistance training increase bone density. 2) Eat fruits and vegetables A couple of studies showed that they increase bone metabolism and/or bone density, while calcium did not.

No More Stuttering with Access From the July 1 BodyTalk Access Newsletter, submitted by Jane Peterken, New Zealand: “This story comes from a local school teacher who attended an Access class of mine and it was even paid for by her school! She looks after the new entrants and after sharing the stories about the success of Cortices being done in some schools in the U.S., she thought she’d try getting her class to tap out the Cortices each day—and after only two weeks of the kiddies tapping, she got a call from a parent to talk about it. ‘I just wanted to talk to you about that tapping thing that the kiddies do each morning . . . about my 5-year-old daughter who has a speech stuttering problem . . . well, I just wanted to thank you soooo much—she is no longer stuttering!—so thank you, thank you!’ “I also have a kindergarten doing the same and now have two more teachers at local schools coming to my next Access class because of what they are hearing from others!” Please pass the word about the benefits of Cortices. You can send this link to anyone who wants to learn why the Cortices tap-out is important and how to do it: http://sanantoniobodytalk.com/cortices.html Ease Into Movement Can you touch your toes? Is it too uncomfortable to even try? We need our muscles and tendons to be flexible to avoid injury. Anat Baniel has developed a method of stretching that gives “your brain the information it needs to figure out how to let go of tight muscles and tendons.” Go to the link below to see what that means. Something to think about: “Meaning is not something you stumble across, like an answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of the affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that unique pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account.” John Gardner
