“Try not to resist the changes that come your way.  Instead, let life live through you.  And do not worry that your life is turning upside down.  How do you know that the side you are used to is better than the one to come?”

Essential Oil For Families
Babies, children, Grandma and Grandpa: Everyone benefits from essential oils. I will be doing a presentation on the nine most popular and versatile essential oils and how to use them on yourself and your family.  There are two times/locations:
  1. Orsinger Park, 12300 Huebner Rd., Thursday, June 17 at 9:15 a.m. near the sandpit.
  2. Starbucks at Boerne Stage Rd and IH-10, Tuesday,  June 29 at 2:00 p.m.

Sunscreen Recipes
Many sunscreens contain chemicals that are a safety concern, so I’ve compiled some recipes below.  Also, something I read about years ago:  A healthy omega 6 and 3 ratio makes us less susceptible to melanoma. It was very rare years ago when our ancestors were in the sun many hours more than us and had a better omega 6:3 balance. You know how pale I am and I used to burn quickly, but that is no longer the case since I reduced omega 6 and increased omega 3 in my diet.
*From Saving Face by Dr. Sabina DeVita :
“Mix 3-6 drops of helichrysum italicum essential oil with 100 drops of sesame oil or olive oil.  Apply every few hours.”
 *From www.Mothering.com:
“Homemade Sunblock--Get on eBay, order one pound each zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. (These are white powders. They are naturally occurring and nontoxic, but avoid breathing in their dust if you can. This is not a good project for children.) Add one tablespoon of each to one cup of your favorite lotion for an SPF of ~30. Blend very well. As this sits, it combines better and better. It may make you look somewhat pale, and you need to rub it into your skin really well.
I have used homemade sunscreen on an infant under six months with doctor’s approval and no adverse affects. I use it daily on my 1 year old and she has never had any sort of problem. I use it on my face daily, and it is wonderful. All chemical sunscreens, even Oil of Olay for Sensitive Skin, broke me out terribly. The homemade stuff NEVER has.”

*Patricia Mills, www.soapguru.com , adapted the recipe below:
“So here is the recipe, the original one was found in The Green Beauty Guide, by Julie Gabriel who quotes it from Alive Magazine, but I made some changes…
  • 5 oz grapeseed oil (feel free to infuse with herbs like Calendula or Plantain)
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1/2 oz beeswax
  • 4 0z lavender hydrosol (or any other hydrosol you like)
  • 2 tbls zinc oxide powder
Mix the oil, shea butter and beeswax in a 2 cup pyrex measuring cup, put in a pot partially filled with water (to act as a double boiler), melt over medium-high heat.  Add the zinc powder.  Allow to cool until a crust starts to form around the edges.  Using a hand blender, begin to slowly pour the hydrosol into the oil.  Keep mixing until all the hydrosol is fully incorporated and the cream is smooth.  Put into a clean, sterilized jar.  Store in the refridgerator.
I scoop some into a tin to take on the go, and refill when needed.  I can’t give you the spf factor, but I have used it on myself and all my kids (4 of them ranging from 16 months to 10 years) and after a day at the beach, and 2 hour hikes, no one has gotten any burns or redness.  I also like to use it as a barrier cream.”

Face Yoga
Our facial muscles benefit from exercise, just like all of the others.  Face Yoga seems to be latest craze for those wanting to look younger, but it has some value.  I like the following exercise:  Sit in a chair.  Look up to the ceiling, make a big pucker with your lips and make a kiss noise.  Repeat a couple of times.

Focus on Purification
Purification is a blend of essential oils designed to purify, cleanse, disinfect and deodorize.
*A drop or two on a cotton ball near an air vent will neutralize odors.
*Or put cotton balls with Purification in your shoes.
*It’s great as a gunk-remover.  I’ve used it to get caulk and tree-wound paint off of my hands.  One drop dissolved both.
*Useful for bug bites.  Great for bee and wasp stings.  I have read several testimonials about Purification neutralizing poison from brown recluse spider bites.
*Cleanse cuts and scrapes with Purification.  It can be beneficial for relieving the itch from hives.
*Peppermint essential oil is the first oil to use if you have morning sickness.  If that doesn’t help, Purification often does.

Something to think about:
“Illness gives us an opportunity to dig into our emotional and spiritual self.  That’s why I became a bioenergetic psychotherapist, because I realized that illness can be looked at as an opportunity.  If you can reframe that to patients and say, “Look, this is placed in your path for a reason,” and if they take it in and believe it, then they grow, and that growth and the energy from it, that in itself cures them . . .There is a simplicity in this approach that is too often diminished because it isn’t based on surgery or pharmaceuticals, which absolutely have their place. But compassion and caring and attention and touch are the healing tools of nature.  They work.  I’ve seen it time and time again:  the power of the mind, body and spirit.  When my patients contract catastrophic disease, it’s like the old Chinese saying, “There’s always opportunity in crisis.”  You must find the good.  You must find the lesson and then you will heal.”                             Stephen Sinatra, MD in Knockout, by Suzanne Somers
