Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune--without the words,
And never stops at all.

The Power of Cortices
From the 3/25/09 BodyTalk Access Newsletter, submitted by Susan Moening, CBP, Evergreen, Colorado:
“I have been teaching for 16 years in inner city schools in Denver, Colorado and began doing Cortices with my 3rd grade students in the spring of 2008 after taking Modules 1 and 2 with Michael McKibban here in Denver . Michael had suggested that I teach my students the Cortices Technique. We begin each day with our “Brain Wake-up” to get us present and ready to learn together. The initial response from my students when we first started doing the Cortices Technique was that they felt relaxed and calm. From there they began doing Cortices spontaneously when they felt tired or experienced conflict or in the middle of tests when they felt anxious. They don’t hesitate to point out when I could use them as well. One day I was unorganized and one of my students said, “Ms. Susana you look discombobulated, maybe you should do your cortices.” His observation was right on and after taking a moment to follow his advice, the rest of the day went smoothly. Implementing this simple technique on a daily basis has become an integral part of our day at school and I’m seeing kids wide awake, focused and eager to learn.”

Another Great PACE Workout from Al Sears, MD:
(Consult your physician before beginning any new exercise program and to adapt it to your fitness level . . .)

“Get up from your chair. Make sure you have some space around you. We’re going to do some jumping jacks. Remember those from when you were in middle school? They’re a great exercise to get your heart pumping and your lungs working.

“Stand with your feet together and your arms at your side. Jump out with your legs and raise your arms over your head. Breathe through your nose. Return to your starting position and repeat. Do 25 jumping jacks.

“Stop and recover until your heart rate slows and you feel like you are almost back to normal.

“Do 25 more jumping jacks, but this time, increase the speed. Try to get them done in half the time you did the first set. Recover.

“Do 35 jumping jacks, a little faster this time. You’ll start to feel the burn in your legs and your breathing get harder.

“Do a few more sets, increasing the number and the speed each time. But remember to recover in between. Do these sets three times a week. You’ll notice the time it takes for you to recover will decrease and you’ll be working at a high intensity in no time!”

Focus on Frankincense:
"Frankincense can help to fortify a mind burdened with mental anxiety, nervous tension or stress. It revitalizes the body and mind, comforts and soothes the emotions and helps you sever ties with the past that are hampering your personal growth."

Something to think about:

The word "appreciation" means to be thankful and express admiration, approval, or gratitude. It also means to grow or appreciate in value. As you appreciate life, you become more valuable—both to yourself and others.
