“Nothing you can purchase, no three stage program or seven step plan will ever replace or be as valuable as your own inner voice. Life becomes so simple, and so much happier, when you learn to listen to and follow your inner voice.”

How Often Do You Eat Corn?

Many people would say they eat corn once every week or two.  The more appropriate question may be: How often do you eat corn with your corn?  The animals we eat are fed corn, our dairy products come from corn-fed cows, catfish in fish farms are fed corn, too.  Then there are corn-derived additives in the food we buy.  The following common ingredients come from corn:

Ascorbic acid

Citric acid

High-fructose corn syrup

Lecithin

Mono-, di- and triglycerides

Maltodextrin

Monosodium glutamate

There are 45,000 items in a typical grocery store and more than a quarter of them now contain corn.  So . . .how often do you eat corn? J

Focus on Sweet Orange Essential Oil

Orange oil is anti-inflammatory, antitumoral, anticoagulant, calming and improves circulation.

*When inhaled, orange oil can act as a sedative and helps relieve nervous disorders.

*Supports collagen formation in the skin.  Dilute and massage areas with cellulite.

*Detoxifies the body and boosts the lymphatic system.  Massage a drop or two mixed with a teaspoon of coconut oil on your feet daily.

     *Often diffused to treat bronchitis.

*Over 50 clinical studies have been done on the anti-cancer properties of d-limonene.  Sweet Orange oil is 91% d-limonene.

*The d-limonene in sweet orange oil repels insects, so it’s a good oil to spray on plants to prevent bugs.  Put a couple drops on cotton balls and place in your pantry to discourage bugs from moving in.

*Aromatherapists believe sweet orange reduces self-doubt and alleviates fears associated with new situations.

Functional Medicine

The idea of looking at and treating the root cause of diseases, instead of using medications for the symptoms, is the core of “Functional Medicine.”  To get a sense of how a doctor trained in Functional Medicine might help you handle your illness or autoimmune disease, take a look at a blog by Mark Hyman, MD, who says, “Don't get me wrong, these drugs can help people get their lives back. But they miss the point--they don't treat the root cause of the disease. As my teacher Sid Baker says, if you are standing on a tack, it takes a lot of aspirin to make you feel better.”

Update on Sunscreen Recipe

In my June newsletter, I included recipes for homemade sunscreen.  I had used the first recipe, containing Helichrysum essential oil, several times, but it really got put to the test this summer.  I wore it while hiking in Yosemite National Park—4 hours in the sun—and had only very slight pinking on my forehead.  Great results and non-toxic too!

Water Options

We often hear these days about the amount of plastic used for bottled water.  Cost is another factor.  The cost of eight bottles of drinking water per day for a year is about $1,400.  If you use bottled water to avoid chlorine and fluoride in your water, there are more options than ever before.  Have your heart set on a reverse osmosis system?  If it isn’t in your budget, consider using a portable filter for a limited period and putting the amount you save on bottled water toward purchasing the new system at a later date.

BodyTalk Access In Kerrville

Back again in our area!  I hope you can attend BodyTalk Access September 25 to learn five easy-to-use techniques (including Cortices) to help you and your family feel better fast and improve overall well-being.   Here’s a testimonial from Chantelle Rodgers, who used the “Fast Aid” she learned at an Access class:

“I had a horse step on my toe and thought it was broken. I was in so much    pain, I had to call my mom to come to my house to look after my son because I could      not put any pressure on my toe at all. I did fast aid after talking to her and by the time she got to my house, I was walking around without any pain - I actually forgot my toe             was sore.”

Contact Todd Adkins, 972-255-3600, for more information about this one-day seminar.

Something to think about:

“I must listen to my life and try to understand what it is truly about—quite apart from what I would like it to be about—or my life will never represent anything real in the world, no matter how earnest my intentions.

“That insight is hidden in the word vocation itself, which is rooted in the Latin for “voice.”  Vocation does not mean a goal that I pursue.  It means a calling that I hear.  Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am, I must listen for the truths and values at the heart of my own identity, not the standards by which I must live—but the standards by which I cannot help but live if I am living my own life.”

                                                Parker J. Palmer
