Essential Oil Basics:
I hope you'll visit
my oils website. It is full of information, testimonials and the history of essential oils. You will be asked to sign in to view the pages. The information you provide goes only to me.

For a quick overview of essential oils, see below:

What Is An Essential Oil?

Essential oils are  liquids derived from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds.  They defend plants from insects, harsh environmental conditions and disease.  Think of them as the immune system of the plant.

Because they are anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, antiseptic, antitumoral and more, they can be used by us to improve our health.  New studies are being done every year that prove the benefits of therapeutic-grade essential oils. So if you have a health concern, there are oils that have been effective for it. The oils are strong enough to fight bacteria and viruses, but gentle enough to use on babies and children. They are also used to clean the home and even to eliminate black mold. Essential oils can be put on topically, taken internally and diffused.

Why do Essential Oil Prices Vary So Widely?

The price is based on whether or not the oil is true therapeutic grade essential oil. Only 2% of the essential oils sold in the US can meet that standard, and they are the only ones to use.  Most are labeled "100% Pure Essential Oil," but they contain other ingredients as well. How can you tell the difference?  Read the rest of the label. Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint are oils that can be taken internally. If the labels on any of those oils say, "Not for internal use," you're looking at a product that won't have the powerful effect that therapeutic oils have and may actually be harmful to you. Another way to tell if you have a good essential oil is to look at the price. I have seen lemon oil for $4 and $5. A good lemon essential oil will be $10-13. True therapeutic-grade essential oils can strengthen the immune system and be anti-viral, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, antiseptic, anti-tumoral and even anti-fungal.  If you're going to spend money on it, get the real thing, and in my book, the real thing is only produced by Young Living.

If I Want To Start Using Essential Oils, How Would I Use Them?

Think about what you want to do.  Do you have a health concern?  Are you simply looking to use less toxic substances to clean your home or freshen the air?  Do you hope to strengthen your immune system to prevent illness?

Here are some possibilities for starting to use therapeutic-grade essential oils:

Lavender:  Rub a drop on the bottom of each foot daily for calming; soothe a minor burn with 2-3 drops; rub on dry or chapped skin; reduce or minimize scar tissue by massaging it on or around affected area; place a few drops on a wet cloth to deodorize and freshen laundry; put in homemade cleaning spray (ask me for the recipe if you don’t have it); rub a drop on your palm and smooth over your pillow to aid sleep.
Peppermint:  Add a drop to herbal tea to aid digestion; open bottle and gently breathe in to boost your mood and reduce fatigue before and during a workout; do the same to clear stopped-up sinuses; massage 2-3 drops onto the chest or put in a humidifier to ease discomfort associated with the winter season; dilute with some type of oil (I like almond oil) and rub on the temples, forehead, over the sinuses (avoid contact with the eyes) and on the back of the neck to soothe head pressure.

Where Can I Buy Young Living Oils?

If you are interested in purchasing essential oils, you can do so at
www.YoungLiving.com  You’ll need my Distributor #1054568. You will click on “Member Sign-Up” first. Should you be a distributor member or a customer member? If you want a bottle or two to try them, become a customer and pay retail prices. If you want to try several oils, sign up as a distributor. What do you have to do as a distributor? Buy a Start Living Kit (there are several to choose from) and you will then save 24% on everything you order. Order $50 worth of product each year to continue as a distributor. I became a distributor by purchasing the Start Living With Everyday Oils Kit, which contains the nine most popular oils and blends.
